ABOUT US

The Vietnam Development Forum (VDF) is a Vietnam-based project office of GRIPS Development Forum (GDF).  VDF was established in February 2004 by the joint research project between the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) in Tokyo and the National Economics University (NEU) in Hanoi under GRIPS's 21st Century Center of Excellent (COE) Program. VDF is an academic unit and not a consulting business.

VDF also has an office in Tokyo, namely Vietnam Development Forum Tokyo (VDF-Tokyo), which was established in October 2004, superseding the Japan-Vietnam Economist Club (JVEC) set up by Professor Kenichi Ohno (GRIPS), Professor Tran Van Tho (Waseda University) and Vietnamese graduate students studying in Japan.

The objectives of both VDF and VDF-Tokyo include promoting high quality research on the Vietnam's development; offering a forum for information and intellectual exchange among people sincerely interested or deeply involved in Vietnam; disseminating analysis and proposals in order to improve Vietnam's policy formulation; building an open network where researchers and policy makers can meet, discuss and help each other; and publicizing excellent research produced by scholars and organizations outside VDF and VDF-Tokyo.

For more details, please see our websites VDF and VDF-Tokyo. Please also contact us in Hanoi by the following address.

The Center for Development Economics and Public Policy (CDEPP) is founded on basis of the Vietnam-Netherlands Master’s Programme in Development Economics (MDE), which is a two-and-a half-year part-time degree taught at the National Economics University (NEU), Hanoi. Graduates will receive a degree jointly signed by the Rectors of the NEU in Hanoi, Vietnam and the Institute of Social Studies (ISS) in the Hague, the Netherlands. The CDEPP curriculum focuses on applying economic theory to the policy challenges facing Vietnam. The program with both coursework and thesis components taught and guided in English has been established as a Vietnam's leading Master degree in the field of economics. CDEPP has achieved international standards in the teaching of economics.

In July 2007, MDE was approved by the Rector of NEU to become the Vietnam Netherlands Center for Development Economics and Public Policy (CDEPP). The Center was given more autonomy in its activities, including graduate education, academic research and policy consultancy. CDEPP’s main focus is on providing Master programmes in Development Economics and Applied Finance, as well as doing research in developmental issues and policies.

All CDEPP graduates are currently employed in government ministries and universities, as well as in the private sector, multilateral institutions and international non-governmental organizations. Many graduates have attained PhD scholarships in Europe, USA, Japan, Australia and other advanced countries. Over 250 graduates have obtained Master in Development Economics degrees since 1994.
